FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS

The following awards/scholarships are not connected to any specific application form.  Recipients of each award will receive a $100 scholarship sponsored by Dr. Allan & Margi Ross.
    *John Philip Sousa Award:  The John Philip Sousa Award was established in 1954 and is presented annually by thousands of high school instrumental music departments across the United States.  At Sabetha High School the recipient of this award is selected by band members. This award recognizes outstanding dedication and superior musicianship.
    *Drama & Forensics Director's Award: The recipient of this award is selected by the Drama & Forensics teachers.  The qualifications include:  exhibit leadership on stage, exhibit talent on stage, and involvement in all aspects of production.  
    *Drama & Forensics Coach's Award: The recipient of this award is selected by the Drama & Forensics teachers.  The qualifications include:  exhibit leadership on the  Forensics team, exhibit talent in acting, speaking and interpretation, and involvement in all aspects of team participation.
    *Vocal Music A.W. ARD: This award is given to the senior vocal student in recognition of outstanding performance and contribution to the organizational needs of the Odyssey Singers.  The recipient of this award is selected by the vocal music teacher.  
   *Vocal Music Arian Award: This award is determined by the vocal music student's involvement and contribution to his or her musical organization, performing ability and musicianship, scholastic standing, and demonstration of personal and professional qualities in keeping with the school's standards.  The student makes application for this through the vocal music teacher.  It is determined on a points system.  
    *Visual Arts "Van Gogh" Award:  This is the top award in the visual arts.  This award is presented to a senior artist who has been enrolled in art for at least three years and shows outstanding skill, technique, creativity and a focused work ethic.  The quality and quantity of their artwork has been exceptional and consistent throughout their senior year.  The recipient of this award is selected by the art teacher.  
    *Visual Arts "Hopper" Award:  This award is presented to a senior artist who has exhibited great artistic skill, technique, creativity and a good work ethic.  Their senior artwork  has been strong and consistent.  The recipient of this award is selected by the art teacher.

Ray and Margaret Deaver Scholarship

Scholarships Awarded/Amount: 1/$250 (Renewable for up to 4 years if the recipient maintains a 2.5 gpa each semester)
Special Eligibility Requirements: The scholarship will be given to an individual whose main source of family income is earned from a family farm operation.  The recipient should come from a family that exemplifies good family farming and soil conservation practices.  A student who participates in community, school and family activities will be heavily considered.  Such activities may include, but are not limited to, the following:  Farm Bureau, Home Extension, Sabetha Farmers COOP Elevator, Cattle/hog Associations, and Wildlife Management.  Student activities could include but are not limited to the following:  4-H, FFA, Scouts, music or academic organizations.

Wenger Manufacturing Scholarship

Purpose: Today in America, industry outsourcing to foreign countries has become the trend. We at Wenger would like to do our part to keep good jobs in our hometown and keep our community strong and thriving.Wenger Mfg is looking to the future by sponsoring a Scholarship Program to encourage graduates to pursue a career in Machining.

Scholarship Applicants will need to successfully complete the following items to be selected for the program:

● Complete Wenger Mfg Employment Application

● Interview with Wenger Management

● Complete Pre-Employment Test/Drug Screen @ Sabetha Community Hospital

● Complete Financial Aid Forms or Parental/Self Support for Living expenses

● Complete Entrance Test @ Kaw Area Technical School
Wenger will also provide part-time work for eligible students during summer and winter class breaks to acclimate the student to the Machining Career. Wenger encourages scholarship recipients to seek full-time employment at Wenger for a minimum of two years upon completion of their education. This employment would be on the Night shift and would include the current shift incentive of $5/hour.

Course Description:

Wenger has partnered with Kaw Area Technical School in Topeka, which has a well-known Machine Technology program. The basic information on the Machine Tech program is as follows:

● 9 month course – start in January (with summer off) and graduate in December
or start in August and graduate in May.

● 6 hour class day –from 8 AM to 3 PM with an hour for lunch. 1080 class
hours to graduate.

● Total cost for the 9 month course is $3500, including tuition, books, materials and
tooling.

● There is a math and reading aptitude test that must be passed to qualify for the
program.
